here we go…!!!

March 5, 2010Hello world!
February 11, 2010“Hello! You’re lookin’ mighty fine today!”
“Thanks! Right back atcha, babe!”
And so begins my foray into the ever-expanding realm of digital correspondence. You read that right. Let it be known that Zack Carpenter, 31 years old for one last day, has never before blogged. Heck, I can remember when using the word “blog” in school would’ve received disapproving glances and, possibly, a trip to the principal’s office. The irony is, I’ve started this page as part of my journalism education at the University of New Mexico. Had I not started a blog, my grade would be lower – the college equivalent of being sent to the principal.
So here I am. While this blog’s catalyst was academic responsibility, I fully intend to expand its scope. School and education are two of life’s components – so are exercise, politics, philosophical revelations and unique, lemon-based dessert recipes. That is to say, this blog’s life calling isn’t to simply beef up my GPA by a hundredth of a point. Additionally, this blog’s raison d’ etre shall hopefully transcend mere personal musings; little blog, you’re not going to devolve into a narcissitic, Web-based diary. On the contrary, my goal is to form a jucture, a type of meeting point, between my little world and many of the other little worlds out there, those things we call “culture,” “society,” and “humanity.”
In lieu of this goal, you, the Reader, are warmly invited to join me in this decade-late enterprise. Let’s learn, share, agree, disagree – engage in human communication in this technologically advanced and supremely convenient form. I didn’t get a cell phone until two years ago, yet that was a successful decision. Since I got it, I’ve nearly sent three, whole texts! Likewise, this blog can be a juncture, a virtual cross-road, and a wayfarer’s station on this road of Internet-infused life. Let’s make this journey great.
“Wow, you’re sounding eloquent today. I think I’ll stick around for more.”
“Thanks, babe. Right Zack-atcha!”
